Every employee of Empire and its subsidiary, Sobeys Inc., must comply with the code of conduct and ethics line for their role in social responsibility.
President and CEO, Empire
On behalf of Empire’s shareholders, the Board is responsible for the stewardship of the Company. To fulfil this responsibility, it establishes policies aimed at ensuring the Company’s corporate governance practices are consistent with its commitment to conduct business with integrity and are among the best in Canada. To support these policies the Board has adopted a written Code of Business Conduct and Ethics (the “Code”) covering all employees, officers and directors of the Company. The Code, together with a Corporate Disclosure Policy, emphasizes accountability and transparency.
All employees, officers and directors must confirm annually their compliance with the Code.
The Ethics Line provides employees, suppliers, or other third parties with a confidential way to report concerns regarding actions or behaviours that are unethical, illegal, or potentially damaging to the Company’s reputation, the integrity of its brands, or that are in contravention of the Code.
This is including but is not limited to:
Complaints regarding accounting, internal accounting controls, or auditing matters.
The confidential, anonymous submission by employees of concerns regarding questionable accounting or auditing matters.
The Ethics Line does not replace existing complaint reporting procedures, nor does it replace the need to follow the guidelines for conducting business as outlined in the Code of Business Conduct and Ethics.
